The North Dakota Republican Party unequivocally condemns the abhorrent crimes committed by former State Senator Ray Holmberg. His actions—traveling abroad to sexually exploit minors, manipulating and preying upon vulnerable youth, and betraying the public trust—are reprehensible and stand in direct opposition to the values we hold dear.
Upon learning of the investigation into Holmberg’s misconduct, the North Dakota Republican Party acted swiftly:
- In August of 2024, Holmberg was stripped of his Elephant’s Celebrated Award, an award given to distinguished GOP Republicans.
- In October of 2024, an internal accounting was done regarding all monies paid into the GOP by Holmberg. That total amount was taken off of the GOP’s books and donated to a non-profit that combats child sex trafficking.
- In March of 2025, following Holmberg’s sentencing, a statement was released by the GOP condemning his actions.
Our commitment to justice and accountability remains steadfast. The victims in this case deserve it.
We expect our elected officials to uphold the highest standards of integrity and to serve as exemplars of ethical conduct. Holmberg’s actions are a profound violation of this trust. We must ensure that such breaches of trust are met with transparency, accountability, and unwavering resolve.
The North Dakota Republican Party is committed to supporting legislation that strengthens protections for children and holds public officials to the highest standards. We will continue to work with lawmakers, law enforcement, and community organizations to prevent such atrocities and to support victims of abuse.
Let us be clear: the dust must never settle on issues like this. We must remain vigilant, ensuring that justice is served, and that the sanctity of public office is preserved.
