NDGOP Press Release
June 12, 2024
Bismarck, N.D. – The North Dakota Republican Party (NDGOP) released a
statement following the successful completion of the June 11 primary election.
Chairwoman Sandra Sanford highlighted the significance of this primary,
emphasizing that voters in the Primary Election have historically chosen the
winners of the general election in North Dakota.
“This primary is no different from any of the primaries since Senator Hoeven and
Representative Berg won in 2010,” Sanford stated. “It is no secret that Republican
Primary voters are the ones choosing who will be elected in November.
Republicans continue to win because North Dakotans prefer to be governed by
Republicans. The voters tell us this loud and clear every cycle.”
The NDGOP would remind voters they are not only choosing who will likely win
in November, but also electing those who will govern locally. City and county
officials, school and park boards are all decided in the June election. The NDGOP
stands for local control. Voter participation is necessary for local representation to
serve the interests of their constituents.
Voter turnout was 119,452 (20.11%) statewide—down about 7% from the 2020
primary when mail-in voting was more broadly practiced, but near the average of
the previous six presidential cycles.
U.S. House of Representatives – ND Republican Primary
In the race for the U.S. House, Republican voters resoundingly supported Julie
Fedorchak. In the five-way race, Fedorchak secured 46% of the vote. The NDGOP
trusts Republican voters and will place its full support behind Fedorchak. Her
victory over Rick Becker, Cara Mund, Alex Balazs, and Sharlet Mohr underscores
her strong support within the party.
“Julie Fedorchak is well known to our party, and we know she will do North Dakota
proud in DC,” said Sanford. “Her victory is a testament to the trust that our party
members have in her leadership.”
ND Gubernatorial Race
In the race for North Dakota governor, NDGOP endorsed candidate U.S. Rep. Kelly
Armstrong secured a decisive victory with 73% of the vote.
Chairwoman Sanford had this to say about Armstrong’s win: “Kelly is a fighter. He
fought for us against big-government progressives in Congress. North Dakotans are
ready for Kelly’s leadership to protect our values and stabilize the Republican party
back home.”
ND Rep. Michelle Strinden is Armstrong’s running mate for the office of Lt. Governor.
Endorsement and Vision
The NDGOP is particularly proud of its endorsed candidate, Alex Balazs, who,
despite not winning, exemplifies the party’s values and commitment to service.
“Alex is a true patriot and a veteran,” Sanford remarked. “He truly laced up to serve
our country at the border and overseas. Alex has the experience to be an effective
leader from day one, and those who met him on the campaign trail are pleading
with him to stay in ND politics.”
All the other endorsed candidates for statewide office were unopposed in their
primaries. The NDGOP will also support their campaigns through the general
election on November 5th. Those candidates are U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer, State
Auditor Josh Gallion, Treasurer Thomas Beadle, Insurance Commissioner Jon
Godfread, and Public Service Commissioner Randy Christmann.
Moving forward, the NDGOP remains committed to its core principles of equal
rights, individual liberty, personal responsibility, free enterprise, and a
family-centered future—a Republican future.
All endorsed candidates for statewide office will advance to the general election, where the party will continue to champion these values for the betterment of North Dakota.
