President Trump told a crowd of North Dakotans today that Heidi Heitkamp is out-of-touch with North Dakota’s values, and now she seems determined to prove him right.
Just hours after the President’s fundraising event in North Dakota, Heidi Heitkamp sent out a tone deaf email, claiming this Senate seat belongs to her:
NEWSFLASH– This Senate seat doesn’t belong to Heidi Heitkamp; it belongs to the people of North Dakota. And given that 90% of the $1 million President Trump’s event raised came from North Dakotans, it looks like they want it back.
President Trump is in North Dakota today in support of Kevin Cramer’s Senate bid, and given Heidi Heitkamp’s abysmal record and support for Hillary Clinton, she really wants to change the subject.
President Trump, who won the state by 36 points, stands for growing our economy, combating illegal immigration, repealing harmful regulations and ending late-term abortion. While Heitkamp will spend the day offering cheap gimmicks to distract voters, the President’s visit serves as an unavoidable reminder that Heidi Heitkamp has stood in firm opposition to all he’s accomplished.
President Trump said it best during his last visit: “You need a senator who doesn’t just talk like they’re from North Dakota, but votes like they’re from North Dakota.”
President Trump visited North Dakota today to support Kevin Cramer and in his speech he did just that.
North Dakotans voted overwhelmingly for the Trump agenda in 2016, and as the President pointed out, there’s only one candidate for Senate who will advance that agenda and “that’s Kevin Cramer.”
- Border security? “That’s Kevin.”
- Bigger paychecks? “That’s Kevin.”
- Reduced crime? “That’s Kevin.”
- Better health care? “That’s Kevin.”
- Conservative judges? “That’s Kevin.”
- Protect the unborn? “That’s Kevin.”
- Support the Second Amendment? “That’s Kevin.”
In his visit today, President Trump reminded North Dakotans that Heidi Heitkamp stands in firm opposition to the agenda they want and the principles they stand for. With Kevin Cramer, North Dakota voters are ready to elect a Senator that stands for them.
Democrat Heidi Heitkamp’s colleagues on the Senate Judiciary Committee just found a way to hit a new low in Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court confirmation hearing, openly admitting they plan to release classified information because they think these hearings are not legitimate.
Just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse, Senate Dems are finding new ways to embarrass themselves.
Heidi Heitkamp has repeatedly claimed her position on Kavanaugh will be determined by these hearings. North Dakotans deserve to know if she agrees this hearing is illegitimate and if she stands with her colleagues blatant disrespect for the Senate chamber.
Caught between an extremely liberal base that’s hell bent on opposing Kavanaugh, and the overwhelming majority North Dakota voters who want him confirmed, Heidi Heitkamp is continuing to follow Chuck Schumer’s orders by once again refusing to announce her position on the Supreme Court nominee.
True to form, Heitkamp is trying to have it both ways, first telling reporters she’s seen nothing “so far” that should disqualify Kavanaugh from serving on the bench, then having her aides walk those comments back. North Dakotans want a Senator who takes a stand, not one who avoids supporting what her constituents want.
MEANWHILE– Heitkamp has still refused to condemn her colleagues’ obstructionist attempts to derail these hearings. Democrats yesterday launched their coordinated effort to disrupt and protest the hearings, and they continued this strategy today.
Despite what Heidi Heitkamp wants North Dakota voters to believe, this shameful approach- led by Chuck Schumer- is emblematic of what a Senate chamber run by Heidi Heitkamp’s party would look like. The people of North Dakota deserve to know why Heidi Heitkamp is apparently okay with such extremist tactics.
Kevin Cramer yesterday released a new ad attacking Heidi Heitkamp’s record of support for late-term abortion.
Heitkamp’s liberal position on late-term abortion isn’t shared by North Dakotans, who strongly support the late-term abortion ban Heitkamp has repeatedly voted against. Not only is her position out-of-touch, it’s not the position North Dakotans voted for.
As The Atlantic’s Elaina Plott reports, “During her first Senate campaign in 2012, Heitkamp argued that late-term abortion should be illegal ‘except when necessary to save the life of the mother.’” Yet in 2015, she voted to filibuster a bill that would ban abortions after the fifth month of pregnancy. As The Weekly Standard’s John McCormack reported at the time, when he attempted to ask about her seeming change of heart, Heitkamp ‘refused to talk about it.‘”
Heidi Heitkamp needs to finally answer for why she turned against the will of North Dakotans. With a record of such blatant hypocrisy, it’s no wonder Heitkamp is telling reporters she’s “worried about getting reelected.”
In case you missed it…
Over Labor Day weekend, Democrat Heidi Heitkamp’s party boss Chuck Schumer handed down new marching orders for opposing Brett Kavanaugh during his Supreme Court confirmation hearings this week.
Heitkamp’s colleagues obediently followed suit, attempting to throw the hearing into chaos right from the start.
REMINDER: Heitkamp dutifully followed Schumer’s previous orders: “Keep your powder dry. Don’t commit. Stay as neutral as you can, as long as you can.” That’s why Heitkamp has refused to offer her position on the nominee, even after she met him and acknowledged his sterling record and qualifications.
North Dakotans deserve to know if Heidi Heitkamp plans to follow her new marching orders and if she supports her party’s ridiculous stunts today.
